Nykaa and L'Oréal's corporate venture fund, BOLD, will jointly take minority stakes in emerging Indian beauty, wellness, and personal care brands. The collaboration, announced on Thursday, is designed to provide capital and strategic guidance while allowing founders to retain ownership and operational independence.

Investments will target businesses that have demonstrated strong consumer demand and differentiated product offerings. Founders will keep their own teams, culture, and creative direction. BOLD and Nykaa will act as long-term partners beyond capital, offering mentorship and guidance to help scale these brands.

Strategic benefits for portfolio companies

Selected brands will gain access to L'Oréal's global beauty expertise and Nykaa's omnichannel retail network. The partnership aims to leverage Nykaa's deep consumer insights and distribution capabilities alongside L'Oréal's international reach. The goal is to help ambitious Indian beauty founders scale faster and build enduring brands for both the domestic and global markets.

The experience gained from building Nykaa has informed its understanding of brand development. The intent is to back founders with a combination of capital, mentorship, and specialized beauty industry knowledge.

Market context and shared vision

Nykaa and L'Oréal have been partners in India for over a decade. Anchit Nayar, Executive Director and CEO of Nykaa Beauty, stated that combining Nykaa's consumer ecosystem with L'Oréal's global expertise will be a valuable asset for the next generation of founders. Jacques Lebel, Managing Director of L'Oréal India, called India one of the most exciting beauty markets in the world.

Both executives share a vision of making India one of the world's largest and fastest-growing beauty markets. Lebel cited expanding consumer demand and a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem as key drivers. This collaboration strengthens their long-standing relationship and reflects a commitment to supporting innovation within India's beauty sector.

Broader industry trends in India

The partnership arrives amid significant investor interest in India's beauty and personal care market. Growth is driven by rising consumer spending, digital commerce adoption, and demand for homegrown brands. Several major global players have recently increased their activity in the region.

Nykaa, India's largest beauty retail company, is also in talks on a potential acquisition of Indian skin care brand 82°E. Separately, L'Oréal India is allegedly in talks to take a majority stake in beauty company Innovist. The BOLD fund itself, launched in 2018, invests across the entire beauty value chain through two verticals: beauty and wellness brands, and science and tech for beauty.

The new initiative will jointly take minority stakes in emerging Indian beauty and wellness businesses that show strong consumer demand and differentiated offerings.
